REMEMBERING A TIME PAST FROM A PHOTO MAY BE JUST WHAT YOU NEED….

HAPPY TIMES

CAME ACROSS THIS PICTURE OF MOM AND DAD A FEW YEARS AGO AND IT JUST MADE ME HAPPY TO LOOK AT THEM.   WAS IN AN ART CLASS AT THE TIME AND DECIDED TO DO A PAINTING  OF MY PARENTS.    IF YOU LOOK REALLY HARD I AM IN THE DOORWAY OF THE HOUSE.

POSSIBILITES

IT WAS REALLY FUN TO PAINT THEM AND IT BROUGHT BACK MANY MEMORIES, SOME GOOD AND SOME KINDA SAD.  MY BROTHER HAD BEEN KILLED INSTANTLY BY A PERSON DRIVING A CAR DRUNK PRIOR TO THIS PHOTO BEING TAKEN.   THE FIND OF THIS PHOTO WAS A GOOD FIND ALSO BECAUSE IT WAS PROOF THAT THERE WAS HAPPINESS IN OUR FAMILY AFTER OUR LOSS.  FUNNY HOW I HAD FORGOTTEN THAT THERE WERE HAPPY TIMES.

PLEASE DON’T CONTINUE READING TO FIND THE FINISHED PAINTING OF THIS PHOTO.  IT MIGHT BE A FEW YEARS BEFORE I FINISH THOSE LOVELY FACES.

MY MOM PASSED IN 1990 AND DAD IS NOW 85.  DAD IS STILL ABLE TO LIVE ALONE IN A LITTLE ONE BEDROOM HOUSE THAT MY OLDER SON PURCHASED FOR HIM, ABOUT A BLOCK FROM WHERE I WAS BORN.   NOW THAT I AM 62 IT SEEMS AMAZING THAT HAVING MEMORIES OF THEM IS SUCH AN IMPORTANT PIECE OF HOW I THINK OF MYSELF AND BEHAVE.   THOSE MEMORIES MAKE ME SMILE AND APPRECIATE THE TIMES WE HAD TOGETHER.  ESPECIALLY THE TIMES WE HAD AT GRANDMA’S HOUSE.   EVEN THE THOUGHT BRINGS BACK SMELLS AND IMAGES OF MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF FOOD.   YES I LOVE TO COOK FOR MY CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN JUST THE WAY MY MOM AND GRANDMOTHER DID FOR ME.

BEING IN IRELAND A FEW YEARS AGO REMINDED ME A LOT OF MY CHILDHOOD.  MOST LIKELY WHY I AM RETURNING TO ACQUIRE A COOKING CERTIFICATE. MY MOM’S FAMILY IN KENTUCKY HAD A LARGE FARM WITH A HUGE HERD OF DAIRY COWS.   ALSO LOTS OF CHICKENS.

SUMMER VACATIONS THERE WERE REALLY AN ADVENTURE FROM THE NORM.   MY AUNT COULD KILL A CHICKEN, PLUCK, BUTCHER AND FRY IT UP FOR BREAKFAST BEFORE THE MEN WERE READY TO HEAD OUT TO MILK THE COWS.   BREAKFAST LOOKED LIKE DINNER!!   AFTER THE COWS WERE MILKED WE WOULD MAKE FRESH BUTTER.   PLANNING ON PLUCKING AND BUTCHERING A CHICKEN IN IRELAND….DON’T THINK KILLING THE ANIMAL IS ON THE AGENDA.   THERE ARE ONLY THREE COWS AT BALLYMALOE COOKERY SCHOOL, ALL JERSEYS.  THEY PROVIDE HIGH QUALITY MILK DAILY FOR USE IN THE COOKERY SCHOOL KITCHEN, CREAM FOR OUR COFFEE, HOMEMADE YOGURT AND MANY KINDS OF CHEESES.   REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO MILKING COWS AGAIN AND GATHERING FRESH EGGS.  DID YOU KNOW THAT FRESHLY GATHERED EGGS DON’T NEED REFRIGERATION!

HOPE YOU COME ACROSS A PHOTO THAT OPENS UP A FLOOD OF MEMORY FROM A HAPPY TIME IN YOUR PAST.   MAYBE EVEN REMINDS YOU OF WHY YOU ARE WHO YOU ARE AND BEHAVE THE WAY YOU DO.   THEY MIGHT EVEN HELP CATAPULT YOU INTO A NEW CAREER!

28 DAYS UNTIL LEAVING FOR BALLYMALOE COOKERY SCHOOL….HOPE YOU COME ALONG WITH ME.
